- I am connecting via ppp to a Courier V.Everything (with the latest
- flash rom upgrade in the Courier). My modem is a Sportster 33.6
- external.
-
- We found that if we have it set for the factory hardware flow control
- setting (AT&F1), we consistently get 33.6K connects, but after about
- five seconds the Courier starts retraining (I determined this by
- putting the Sportster in ATM2 mode so the speaker stays on after
- the connection is established). This retrain frenzy will go on
- indefinitely.
-
- Through experimentation, I found that using S32=1 (V.8 Call Indicate
- Enabled) instead of the default S32=2 (Enables V.8 Mode) cures the
- retrain problem, but now we get consistent 28.8K connects, NEVER a
- 33.6K or anything above 28.8K. The modems are completely stable in
- this mode with no retrains, but it'd be nice to be able to use the
- 33.6K capability.
-
- I've looked around and have been unable to find what V.8 _is_, and I
- don't understand the difference between "V.8 Call Indicate Enabled"
- and "Enables V.8 Mode". One other thing I have noticed is that when
- dialing with S32=1, it makes a sound like a digital phone ringing 3
- times prior to even dialing the other side. It sounds quite strange.
-
- Anyone here know what's going on or what this V.8 stuff is?
